Kripa Foundation
Mumbai: When Fr Joe Pereira began helping two actors kick their drug habit many years ago, he did not realize he would become a pioneer in the de-addiction movement in the country.

He went on to establish the Kripa Foundation in 1981, dedicated to the care, support and rehabilitation of those affected by alcohol and drugs and those suffering from HIV/AIDS. He was recently awarded the Padma Shri for social work by the central government.

Fr Pereira now has 48 facilities all over India and six collaborative centres abroad where de-addiction work is carried out. He also holds yoga classes at the Mount Carmel Church Hall in Bandra and the lessons are attended by people of all faiths.
