Many Bachhus lovers fall prey to a vicious cycle where occasional drinking turns into a deadly addiction. William M, a member of Asha Group, a local group affiliated with AA, said that he was also an addict but with proper guidance and sheer will power, he has turned his case around.
“It is not necessary that all addicts are drunkards. We talk to them directly and they understand as they can relate to our experiences. We do not counsel, we just show them the way. To follow or not is their decision,” he said.
He added the group has completed five years in the city where it meets regularly at St Xaviers School Loyola Hall in Naranpura. The meet on January 17 will take place at the same address, he said. “It is open for all addicts and their family members, ” said William.
