Recovery rate among women addicts is better than men, feel addiction centres in Pune which admit women addicts for rehabilitation. Kripa foundation on Sinhagad Road and Muktangan’s De–addiction centre’s Nishigandh both admit women addicts and have seen women patients recover faster.

Anuradha Karkare from Kripa foundation said that they had been admitting women addicts since 1999. "We have had nearly 150 women patients, of which on follow–up we have found that 60 have remained sober over the last ten years while nearly fifteen patients have lost their lives to alcoholism," she says.

Presently, she said only 8–9 patients are female "The women know that they would generally not be given a second chance and so they try and come out of the habit soon and they have better sobriety levels," adds Karkare. For those women who are not accepted back home or come from lower income groups, Kripa foundation is also starting income generation activity for the the women.
