‘Drug addiction promotes crime, ruins health, lives of people’

KUWAIT CITY, April 17: The Directorate General for Drug Control (DGDC) organized the sixth Anti Drugs Forum at the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) to spread awareness about the ills of drug addiction among public.
Addressing several intermediate and secondary school students, who attended the forum, the officer in-charge of public awareness campaigns Captain Thamer Al-Hajeri discussed the types of illicit drugs and warned students against trying anything related to drugs.
He said the department is serious about protecting all segments of the society from the drug menace and noted that drug traffickers do not have mercy for anybody and only target profits. Al-Hajeri told students that drugs ruin the health and lives of people who get addicted to them..
A specialist on drugs and intoxication Dr Ayed Al-Humaidan talked about the dangers of drug addiction and the need to protect youths from it. He said drug addiction encourages crime and added that traffickers devised several methods for smuggling the substance by concealing them in objects like cooking utensils, prayer mats, fruits, equipment and vehicles. Stressing that drug traffickers get death penalty for the crime, Al-Humaidan asked youths to stay away from all such practices. He also called on drug addicts to seize the opportunity and submit themselves for rehabilitation and reintegration into the society.
