A drug peddler from Patil Estate slums in Shivajinagar was arrested by officials of the anti–narcotics cell (ANC) of the crime branch on Sunday. Brown sugar worth Rs 99,000 was seized from his possession.
Raja Panchnathan Pille (26) was caught by a team led by inspector Satish Deore of the ANC. Along with the 66.3 gm of brown sugar, the police also recovered Rs 1,100 from him.
Deore said that police constable Laxman Thorat of the ANC had received a tip–off about Pille. "Accordingly, we laid a trap and nabbed him," he said.
He added that the suspect himself was a victim of substance abuse. "He sold as well as consumed the drugs. We are trying to find out where he got the brown sugar from," Deore said.
