The duo hails from Yerawada and one of them is a woman. The police made the arrests on MG Road in Camp and Yerawada. They seized contrabands and illicit liquor worth Rs 1.24 lakh from the suspects.
A team headed by deputy commissioner of police (economics, cyber) Rajendra Dahale, assistant commissioner of police Vinod Satav, police inspector GV Nikam made the arrests.
Following a tip–off, the police decided to send a foreign national as a decoy customer to trap the suspect.
A suspect, Vikas Aabaji Pongadwale (30), asked the decoy to come to MG Road to take the contraband. The police team arrested him from the spot. Vikas is a resident of Yerawada.
The police recovered hashish and other valuables worth Rs 62,000 from him. While quizzing Vikas, the police came to know that he had procured the drugs from Madhavi Vijay Tamchikar of Yerawada. Later, the police arrested Tamchikar. The team also conducted a search at her house and seized marijuana, illicit liquor and other articles worth Rs 62,000 from her.
The police said Tamchikar’s brother Ankush Indrekar is a drug peddler in the city and he has been booked on various occasions. He was recently externed from the city limits.
