The anti–narcotic cell (ANC) of the Pune crime branch has seized narcotics worth Rs 71.07 lakh in the last five month from different parts of Pune and arrested 55 suspects in this regard, Dahale said.
“To curb the network of drug dealers and peddlers, we have developed a network of informers, particularly in Kondhwa, Yerawada and Pimpri. We have also informed police stations here to keep an eye on the activities of drug dealers in their jurisdiction,” he added.
Dahale said that most of the drugs, particularly marijuana and hashish, come from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. “Of all the narcotics cases registered, the ANC registered more than 90 per cent of them, remaining 10 per cent were registered by police stations,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons, Dahale informed that the police have decided to organised a special programme at Police head quarters on June 26, World Anti–Narcotics Day. The programme will be inaugurated by acting vice–chancellor of the University of Pune Arun Adsul. Commissioner of police Satyapal Singh will also be present on the occasion. “Addicts who have now kicked the habit will share their experiences during the programme,” Dahale said.
“We have also organised an exhibition on narcotics at the police head quarters on June 26. We are planning to go colleges in the city and launch campaigns against drugs,” Dahale said.
