A statement of body signed by its Chief Convener, L Krishnamohon Mangnang stated that the theme of the programme will be “Do drugs control your life? Your life, your community.
No place for drugs” as decided by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC).
The programme will also be based on the theme of “Self protection, self responsibility, self realization against drug trafficking and abuse” as for AMADA.
The All Manipur Anti Drug Association (AMADA) in an open discussion held at Jiri on March 26, 2006 last on “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” resolved to organize the day every year with an objective to spread awareness to the general public and as a result AMADA had been successfully organizing the day every year in 2006, 2007 and 2008 .
AMADA recollected that the observation of the day every year on June 26 was decided by the general assembly of International Conference Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held at Vienna in the year 1987 .
Meanwhile, a general body meeting of AMADA held today at its head office resolved to organize a mass rally on June 26, 2009 in relation to the observation which will go along Khuyathong, North AOC, Minuthong, Khurai, Telipati, Lamlong, Dinku Road, Chingmeirong via Leelasingh Khongnangmakhong and will end at Thangmeiband Thau Ground with a public meeting.
A committee called 4 th Observation Committee of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also formed in the AMADA meeting held today.
President of AMADA, M Padamani Leima, Vice President of AMADA, L Krishnamohon Mangang, Secretary General of AMADA, Ph Phoni Meetei, Secretary Organisation and Coordination of AMADA, M Meghachandra and Secretary HRD of AMADA, N Bobo Meetei were appointed as the Chairperson, Chief Convener, Co-convener, Mobilization Convener and Programme Convener of the new committee respectively.
The statement further stated that AMADA will not take any financial assistance from the general public but will facilitate all those who are willing to help or sponsor in the programme and requested the general public to call up at 9856088740, 9856088698, 9856267818, 8956160992, 9856081944, 9856459684 and 9856176059 for correspondence.
The Manipur Chemist and Druggist Association (MCDA), Regional Resource Training Centre (RRTC) NE-1, Manipur Health Voluntary Association (MHVA) and Manipur Network for Positive (MNP+) has granted sponsorship in the programme.
AMADA appealed the general public, meira paibis and organizations in the state to appreciate the rally which will be undergone with a message of to build a potential society by striving together against drugs and other narcotics and also appealed to all section of the society not to observe any bandh or general strike on the particular day.
