At least nine persons, including two women, have died and 18 fallen ill after consuming illicit liquor in Varanasi and Bhadohi districts in the past 24 hours. However, the district administration has confirmed seven deaths, five in Bhadohi and two in Varanasi. Three persons, including a woman gram pradhan, have been arrested and a police personnel suspended in this connection.
It was stated that the illicit liquor was purchased from Kakhansenpur village under Kapsethi police station in Varanasi district. The incident brought the district administration and police of both districts to their toes. In a joint operation, the police raided different places in Kapsethi in Varanasi and Chauri in Bhadohi on Sunday. The police held three persons.
According to the DM, gram pradhan of Lakhansenpur Pramila Singh, Poonam Singh and Sanjay Rajbhar were arrested for their involvement in illicit liquor supply.
