A four–member gang of drug suppliers, including two brothers–in–law, their mother–in–law and a family friend from Rajashtan, were nabbed by the Anti–Narcotics Cell in the city with heroin worth Rs 10 lakh on Sunday.
While the 48–year–old woman has been identified as Shakeela Rafiq Pathan, her two sons–in–law are Ashiq Hussain Shaikh and Wazid Shaukat Ali. The close family friend is one Shabbir Sattar Shaikh. All the accused have been arrested under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and remanded to police custody.
The police have seized 1.5 kgs of heroin worth Rs 10 lakh. A brand–new Scorpio SUV bearing Rajashtan registration has also been seized.
The Worli unit of Mumbai police’s anti–Narcotic cell received a tip–off that a gang was likely to reach Nehru Nagar at Kurla East. A team led by inspector M V Yadav laid a trap and intercepted the SUV driven by Shabbir, who hails from Ahmedabad.
A personal search by the ANC officers resulted in the recovery of a white powder cleverly packed in polythene bags. The drug identification kit confirmed that it was heroin. The accused told the police that the consignment was meant for one Sikander from Bandra and Sakina from the Nagpada locality. "The accused further told us that they had brought the heroine from one Asif Zalavadi from Rajasthan. We have now launched a manhunt for the rest of the accused," said a police officer.
