Speaking at a press conference, Moghe said, "We expect people to participate in de–addiction movement. Massive drives, in association with social groups and nongovernmental organisations, are being planned across the state". "A policy being drafted for de–addiction will be tabled before the Cabinet in the next couple of months," Moghe added.
Moghe said it was not possible to completely ban sale of liquor. However, everyone knows that consumption of liquor is dangerous to health and society at large. "That is why, we are aiming to increase participation of common people in restricting the consumption of liquor and Gutka," he added.
The minister said hardly any initiatives were being taken by the state to spread awareness about de–addiction. A topic on de–addiction will now be added to school curriculum. Committees will be formed at village, taluka and district levels to spread awareness.
A first of its kind ‘De–addiction literary meet’ will be held in the city in the near future. "I have been urging for the last three years to hold a special session on de–addiction during the annual All–India Marathi literary meet. It is sad that no initiative is being taken in this regard," Moghe said. Hence, "We have decided to hold a literary meet on de–addiction in Pune. The meet will discuss several issues pertaining to de–addiction," Moghe said.
Caste verification now online
Pune: Minister for social justice, Shivajirao Moghe, on Tuesday said students can now apply for caste verification certificates through on–line process.
The state government will soon declare details for the on–line verification procedure. The new system will help in curbing the delay in caste verification and, ultimately, help students in completing formalities for admissions.
The minister said the government was planning to increase the number of caste verification committees. He said around 32 lakh students in the state will receive scholarships in the current academic year through e–scholarship system.
