The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a Pakistani national and two of his Indian associated for their alleged involvement with an international drug cartel. Police have seized drugs worth Rs 10 crore in the international market from them.
Mohammad Ramzan alias Johnny (43), a resident of Bedia near Lahore in Pakistan, was arrested along with his two Indian associates, Jyoti Sharma (45) and Naresh Kumar (26), both residents of Jammu. An Indica car used for carrying the drugs has also been seized.
"The consignment had three kgs of fine quality heroin and two kgs of heroin mixed with cocaine. The trail of heroin starts from Afghanistan, and it travels through Pakistan before it reaches India for further distribution in the international and local markets. The arrests came after we got an information that drugs and fake Indian currency notes are regularly being pumped into India through the Indo–Pak border," said Shibesh Singh, additional DCP, Special Cell.
According to sources, police received a tip–off on August 29 that one Jyoti had procured a large consignment of drugs and fake Indian currency notes through his handler in Pakistan and that he would deliver the same to one of his contacts near Humayun Tomb in Nizamuddin. A trap was laid and police managed to nab the three accused and seized the drugs from them. Since Ramzan was a Pakistani national, he was asked to show his travel documents which he could not produce. Police arrested him soon after.
Ramzan disclosed that he was involved in a murder case in 1991. He was released from Lahore Jail in 2000 after serving a seven year prison term. In 2009, Ramzan came in contact with one Gutti Pehalwan, who smuggles fake Indian currency and drugs which he procures from Afghanistan, and became a partner with the latter. He had come to India twice on earlier occasions to deliver drugs along with his associate Bashir, who also hails from Pakistan.
"On August 26 this year, Pehalwan asked him to deliver five kg heroin to Jyoti. He had crossed over to India from Narowal in Amritsar district with the drug consignment," said Singh.
In July 2009, Jyoti along with his two cousins killed one Jagdish Singh with whom he had a personal enmity. Jagdish, whose brother was killed in an encounter with police while carrying arms to Punjab–based militants, believed that Jyoti was a police informer. Jyoti came in contact with one Avinash, a resident of Amritsar, in 1991 in Jammu Jail. Avinash lured him to supply fake currency and drugs. Naresh is Jyoti’s brother–in–law.
